My story
Dr. Aviani has been engaged in the world of agriculture since he was a boy, taking his first steps as a student at the agricultural school in Pardes-Hana, Israel. After completing his military service in the IDF, Aviani spent several years working in banana plantations in the Jordan Valley, and in orchards and vineyards in the Galilee region in the North of Israel.
Realizing his passion, Aviani moved to California and specialized in growing organic wine grapes in the Sonoma Vally.
Upon his return to Israel, he began a course of study at the Hebrew University Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot and 10 years later he completed his doctorate on topics related to agro-ecology and composting.
"The work as a farmer was accompanied by a lot of pain and I could not ignore the feeling that something basic in our perception of the way we relate to agriculture is not accurate" says Aviani.
Time and again Dr. Aviani kept witnessing how conventional agriculture consumes the soil and water resources becoming an environmental hazard, while organic agriculture fails to live up to its promise - with questionable economic feasibility and a bureaucratic tangle of irrelevant growing standards. In both cases farmers were almost completely overlooking the only resource that produces and expresses soil fertility - soil biology, those beneficial microorganisms that are responsible for almost every aspect of fertility.
Aviani Regenerative Agriculture LTD
In 2016 Dr. Aviani founded 'Aviani Regenerative Agriculture LTD' which thrives to impliment regenerative agriculture techniques and technologies, sustainably renewing resources of agricultural systems, improving soil fertility and increasing farmers profits.
"We started small with a second-hand pickup truck and a lot of faith and goodwill, enriching farmlands with compost tea, freshly brewed on-site on the break of the day.
"Over the course of several years we gained experience, constantly improving our equipment and production methods. Little by little we perfected our practice, built a factory and supporting facilities and created a network of connections. One step at a time we gained farmers trust increasing our customer base as result.
"We are experiencing a great willingness on the part of farmers to change farming methods, adopting practices that consider the natural resources of the agricultural system."
Aviani believes that farmers are the key to change. Therefore, apart from implimenting innovative tools and practices, Aviani provides close support to farmers in order to improve soil fertility and profitability, and set three major goals:
-
Improving farmers profitability.
-
Transforming agriculture from being a major environmental problem to becoming part of the solution to the climate crisis.
-
Producing food with higher nutritional value.
