CTB is a system for producing compost-tea or compost extract for plots up to 4 acres per round.
Detailed operating instructions for the CTB10 system and the CTB40 system can be found on this page.
Preparing compost extraction
Preperations
Place the CTB mixing barrel on an elevated platform to enable pouring by gravity.
Close the distribution tap.
Water filling
Fill water up to the desired line.
Keep the water level below the curve line under the grip handles to prevent overflow.
Add a drop (5-10ml - sip from the bottle) of humic acid.
Activating the Air Unit
Insert the air unit long pipe into the barrel.
Set the pressure control valve to its closed position.
Switch on the blower to initiate airflow.
Adjust the pressure control valve to achieve the desired mixing intensity. This can be fine-tuned according to your specific requirements.
Allow the mixture to stir for a period of 3-5 minutes. This time frame allows for the chlorine to effectively evaporate from the water.
Adding compost
Add quality compost at a ratio of 1 part compost to every 4 parts of water (v/v).
Let the mixture stir for a minimum of 15 minutes to obtain a basic extract ready for use.
After 15 minutes or more deactivate the air blower and remove the air pipe from the barrel.
Allow the mixture to rest undisturbed for 5 minutes, enabling the solids to settle.
Concentraing the extraction
It is advised to decrease the blower power to a gentle, rolling bubble after 15 minutes of full-power extraction.
Allow this gentle bubbling to continue for several hours to concentrate the extraction and intensify its effect.
Distribution
Place a filteration sleeve onto the tip of the distribution tap.
Turn on the tap allowing the extraction to flow into your container.
Add 1% humic acid into the mixture.
Your extract or compost tea is now ready for use.
The extraction should be applied as soon as possible since aerobic (living) and active biology has a limited shelf life.
Cleaning Instructions
Pour the remaining compost and liquids (you can return them to the edge of the compost pile).
Thoroughly scrub the inside of the barrel using a brush, water, and a small amount of dish soap.
Fill the barrel with water up to the level of the distribution unit and add a small quantity of dish soap.
Insert the air tube into the barrel, switch on the blower, and mix for 3 minutes.
Empty the water from the barrel and rinse it with clean water.
Store the equipment until your next use.
